Error codes, cold sandwiches, no ignition, dropping flow — diagnosed and fixed, usually in one visit.
A tankless unit tells you what is wrong — it just does it in a two-digit code on a small screen. Most of what we see in Austin comes down to four things: scale in the heat exchanger, a dirty or failing flame rod, a flow sensor confused by debris, or a venting problem that trips the safety.
We carry the common parts for the major brands, so the majority of calls are diagnosed and repaired the same visit rather than becoming a parts order and a second trip.

Tell us the house, the fuel, and what is going wrong. Most quotes need five minutes on the phone and a photo of your current heater.
We check gas line size, venting route, electrical capacity and your peak hot water demand, then put a fixed price in writing.
Most changeovers take four to eight hours. Gas line or venting upgrades can add a day. We protect floors and haul the old tank away.
We meet the city inspector, walk you through the controller, and set your first descaling reminder.
| Scope of work | Typical range |
|---|---|
| Diagnostic visit and full system test | $89 - $149 |
| Flame rod or igniter replacement | $220 - $420 |
| Flow sensor replacement | $240 - $450 |
| Descale to clear a flow or temperature fault | $180 - $320 |
| Control board replacement | $450 - $900 |
| Heat exchanger replacement (often warranty covered) | $700 - $1,600 |
Estimates, not quotes. Diagnostic fee is credited against the repair if you go ahead the same visit. Planning ranges only.
Roughly half the tankless repairs we run in Austin, Round Rock and Georgetown trace back to scale rather than a broken part. The unit is not failing — it is insulated. A descale clears the code and the flow comes back, and we would rather tell you that than sell you a heat exchanger.
The other seasonal pattern is February. After a hard freeze we see split heat exchangers and cracked isolation valves on units mounted on exposed exterior walls, and pressure-damaged fittings in houses where the water was left running to prevent a freeze. Freeze damage is generally not a warranty claim, which is why placement matters so much at install time.
Often, yes. Have the brand and the code number ready when you call. Some of them — a blocked intake, a tripped condensate switch — you can clear yourself in five minutes and we will walk you through it rather than sending a truck.
Usually yes if the heat exchanger is sound, because that is the expensive part and it is the part with the long warranty. If the exchanger is scaled through or leaking and out of warranty, replacement is the better spend and we will show you the numbers both ways.
Yes, that is most of our repair work. We service all major brands regardless of who installed them.
No hot water calls get same-day or next-day slots. Everything else is usually within the week, and we give you a two-hour window rather than a day-long one.
