A proper circulating vinegar or solution flush that pulls Central Texas scale out of the heat exchanger.
Descaling is the single most valuable thing you can do to a tankless water heater in Central Texas, and it is the thing most owners have never had done. We circulate a descaling solution through the heat exchanger for forty-five minutes to an hour, flush it out with clean water, and re-check the flow rate against the unit's rating.
On a unit that has never been flushed, the difference is usually visible in the bucket and measurable at the tap.

Tell us the house, the fuel, and what is going wrong. Most quotes need five minutes on the phone and a photo of your current heater.
We check gas line size, venting route, electrical capacity and your peak hot water demand, then put a fixed price in writing.
Most changeovers take four to eight hours. Gas line or venting upgrades can add a day. We protect floors and haul the old tank away.
We meet the city inspector, walk you through the controller, and set your first descaling reminder.
| Scope of work | Typical range |
|---|---|
| Descale, unit already has isolation valves | $180 - $280 |
| Descale plus isolation valve installation | $380 - $620 |
| Heavy scale, extended double flush | $280 - $400 |
| Two units at the same address | $300 - $430 |
| Descale bundled with annual maintenance | $179 - $269 |
Estimates, not quotes. Planning ranges. Descaling is included in the annual maintenance service.
Austin's water is moderately hard. Round Rock's and Georgetown's, drawn from Lake Georgetown through the Brushy Creek system, is harder still. Hardness is not a health issue and the utilities treat it properly — it simply means dissolved calcium arrives at your house, and a tankless heat exchanger is the place in your plumbing where it comes out of solution fastest.
A millimeter of scale on the exchanger wall can cost several percent of efficiency and a noticeable share of flow. Two or three years of it is what turns a $200 flush into a $1,400 exchanger. If you have a tankless unit in this metro and it has never been flushed, that is the call to make.
Ninety minutes to two hours door to door, most of which is the pump circulating while we check the rest of the unit.
White vinegar for routine annual flushes — it is food-safe, effective and gentle on the exchanger. For units with years of buildup we use a stronger commercial solution and follow it with a longer rinse.
We fit them. It takes about an hour, costs a few hundred dollars once, and every flush after that is a straightforward service call instead of a plumbing job.
If the code is flow, temperature or overheat related, very often yes. If it is ignition or electrical, no — and we will tell you before you pay for a flush that was never going to help.
